“If you want to have valuable work experience or want to have a bigger role than you already have with an employer then I would say definitely go and apply for an apprenticeship.”, Reece Hunt, Vision Apprentice.
This week we meet apprentice Reece who is currently studying for a Level 2 Diploma in Business and Administration at Vision West Nottinghamshire College. Once Reece finished his computer science course at West Notts, he thought about going to university, but then he discovered apprenticeships and their advantages.
Here Reece tells us why he changed his mind about university, and why he is so glad he did!
Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
I chose to complete an apprenticeship because I was interested in what apprenticeships had to offer. An apprenticeship meant not only achieving a qualification, but gaining that vital work experience that employers would normally ask for.
Did you ever consider going to college or university?
I studied two courses with Vision West Nottinghamshire College before joining as an apprentice. If I were to choose again I would do the same thing as I studied computer science at two levels and I really feel that has made a positive impact on my current job role.
When I finished college I did think about going to a university. The apprenticeship route changed my mind because I felt it was the right time to start on my career path and start gaining valuable work experience.
How did you find out about the apprenticeship?
I used the Vision Apprentices website, and looked through the vacancies that were listed. Then I found this one, and I thought that it would really suit me.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?
Getting the chance to meet new people such as colleagues, external partners and employers.
What is the best thing you have learnt since starting your apprenticeship?
I have learnt how to use different pieces of computer software.
What are your plans after you finish your apprenticeship?
After I have finished my Level 2 I am staying on with the same teams to do my Level 3 and then I can hopefully gain full employment with Vision West Nottinghamshire College.
Would you recommend apprenticeships to others?
I would definitely recommend completing an apprenticeship, especially with Vision West Nottinghamshire College.
What would you say to people considering doing an apprenticeship?
If you want to have valuable work experience or want to have a bigger role than you already have with an employer then I would say definitely go and apply for an apprenticeship.
